Firefox for Android will support many more extensions

Firefox for Android will support many more extensions in the future than is currently the case, Mozilla has announced through its own bug reporting system Bugzilla. Nearly 29,000 extensions are available for Firefox desktop users that add all kinds of extra functionality to the browser.

Currently, the Android version only supports 18, which are specifically approved by Mozilla and focus primarily on privacy and security. These include uBlock Origin, NoScript, Privacy Badger, AdGuard, Ghostery, Bitwarden, HTTPS Everywhere, Decentraleyes, and Privacy Possum. Through a meta-ticket in its own bug reporting system, Mozilla reports that the support of extensions within Firefox for Android is being increased.

However, a few things are required first, such as the availability of a blocklist for malicious or unsafe extensions, the ability to run extensions in a separate process, and compatibility with different interfaces. When the broader extension support will be available is still unknown. According to figures from the Google Play Store, the Android version of Firefox has been downloaded more than 100 million times.
